Our Events and Workshops

The Siletz Regalia Sharing Closet embodies the spirit of community and cultural preservation. It serves as a vital resource, ensuring that tribal members have access to beautiful and meaningful regalia for important ceremonies and gatherings. By providing a shared collection, the closet reduces the financial burden of acquiring individual pieces, fostering inclusivity and allowing more members to participate fully in their cultural heritage. This thoughtful initiative strengthens connections within the Siletz Tribe and ensures the continuation of cherished traditions for generations to come. Beyond its practical benefits, the Regalia Sharing Closet cultivates a sense of unity and pride.

Each piece held within carries stories and the dedication of its makers, creating a tangible link to the past and a vibrant expression of present-day Siletz identity. The act of sharing regalia reinforces the interconnectedness of the community, promoting generosity and mutual support. It’s more than just a closet; it’s a living testament to the enduring strength and beauty of Siletz culture, readily available to all who wish to partake in its richness.

The Siletz Regalia Sharing Closet debuted at the Nesika Illahee powwow in Siletz Oregon in 2023. Since then we have been invited to numerous Universities, local events, and powwows throughout Oregon and Washington. SRSC is based in Salem, Oregon, but we are open to traveling. Listed here are some of our past and future powwows, round dances, and school events we have set up at. We also will have our workshop dates/sign up information below.
Please contact us if you would like to host us at your powwow!

Workshops:

Not every kid grows up with a connection to their tribal roots, someone to teach them culture, and with the privilege of owning regalia, and lending regalia for free is the first step towards their connection. However, many utilize our closet and want to continue dancing and desire to make their very own regalia. To meet this need, we host free cultural workshops for youth and families to share knowledge and teach them how to make regalia of all sorts. In 2025, we are prioritizing workshops to make otter hair wraps, concho belts, feather fans, moccasins, and ribbon skirts/shirts. We anticipate directly teaching around 100 youth and their families in our traveling workshops. We strive to have an intergenerational space for learning where participants no matter their age or skill can feel safe to join in traditional craft. Participants can then go on and teach what they learn within our workshops to future generations, allowing our knowledge, culture, and ways to thrive, expanding our indirect impact into the thousands.
While we are based in the Salem/Portland area we are always interested in furthering the communities we can reach with our workshops.
